Director of Bands and Guard/Fine Arts Coordinator, Michelle Durden Ms. Durden is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she received her Bachelor of Music degree cum laude in 2018. While at SHSU Ms. Durden was a 4 year member and 3 year visual technician of "The Pride of East Texas" Bearkat Marching Band, as well as a part of the Symphonic Band, Angry Orange Brass Band, and Old Main Brass Choir. Ms. Durden has also performed at the Texas Music Educators Association with the SHSU Horn Choir. Ms. Durden begins her graduate studies at Tarleton State University Summer 2024! Joining the Shepherd ISD Staff in 2018, she directs the Shepherd High School Royal Blue Band, teaches beginning horn, is the director for the Royal Guard and Captain's Guard and is the Fine Arts Coordinator for Shepherd ISD. [email protected] Assistant Director, Juan Gallegos This is Mr. Gallegos' second year at Shepherd Middle School! Mr. Gallegos received his Bachelor of Music at Sam Houston State University, where he was an active member of the Symphonic Band and Bearkat Marching Band. Joining Shepherd ISD, Mr. Gallegos will be directing the Shepherd Middle School Symphonic Band, along with beginner flute, saxophone, and percussion, as well as assisting with the Shepherd High School Royal Blue Band and All Percussion. Mr. Gallegos was born and raised in Conroe, TX. He is also a member of the Houston Texans Pep Band “Deep Steel Thunder,” and performs with the Woodlands Symphony. [email protected] Assistant Director, Christopher Alexander Mr. Alexander is a graduate of Sam Houston State University, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. At Sam Houston State, Mr. Alexander was a 3-year member of the Bearkat Marching Band, principal euphonium player in the Symphonic Band for 3-years, and a member of the Old Main Brass Choir. He also held leadership positions within the SHSU Tuba/Euphonium Studio. Having joined Shepherd ISD’s staff in 2022, he will be directing the SMS Concert Band, along with teaching beginner trumpet, clarinet, and low brass, as well as assisting with the Shepherd High School Royal Blue Band.
